“Sherbet and/or Sherbert”

#22: Mad Men, 2007-2015

Acrylic on Paper, Fall 2022

Differences in taste are common between spouses, however it's important to be mindful of your reaction to certain spousal disappointments. For example, you can't blame anyone for having an aversion to sherbet...or sherbert. Sherbet is an acquired taste of sugar-infused ice, puree, and cream. Its attraction glows from the dish with nuclear tones of Technicolor vibrance, a personification of mid-century nostalgia. To some, of a certain generation, it's a childhood Sunday afternoon at Howard Johnson's. To others, it's perfume-laced blech. Whatever your differences may be in regard to sherbet, or sherbert, it should not be used as fuel for a marital implosion. Nor the reason to abandon a loved one in the parking lot of HoJos.
